Used lens shootout FD, EF etc with image samples

♫♬♪ STOP!...comparison time  ♬♫♪♩

Okay so comparing the Canon 55mm f1.2 FD vs Canon 135mm f2 L EF vs Vivitar 70-210mm f2.8 FD vs Kiron 28-85mm f2.8-3.8 Macro lens might not be a very fair comparison... in fact! Considering the half-assed test method I am using and my complete lack of experience with these FD lenses it might not do you any good at all. My conclusions are completely subjective. ʕु•̫͡•ʔु. So if you want the numbers you should head over to dxomark or the-digital-picture.com for stat comparisons and in-depth lens reviews. Thats what I did before picking up most of these lenses. (☉.̫☉)/

But, in the end, it was nice weather and I needed to play with my new lenses and satisfy my own curiosity, so here goes.

I decided to use my carbon fibre Slik Light 1703 tripod and Manfrotto 804RC2 tripod head as the base. I would then exchange lenses and use the noose-bolt on a transformer some 30+ meters away as a focus point and repeat each test image at several apertures where possible. All shots done at ISO100, but varying in shutter speed and aperture to compensate for exposure. (I did not use exposure compensation in order to keep the test simple)

First up is the Canon 55mm f1.2 @ f1.2 | f2 | f4 | f8

@1.2 As expected, the Canon 55mm f1.2 when shot at ISO100 and wide open f1.2 is overwhelms the sensor even at 1/4000 shutter speed.

@f2 the overexposure was under control :)

Now as this lens is an EF lens and the Fotodiox EF to E mount adapter that I am using is passive, I can only work in f2.

Now while I was expecting a lot from the Canon 135mm f2 L lens, I thought that they all handled very well, and was very happy with the FD lens performance. Really the IQ is quite impressive from a couple of lenses older than me. Σ(゚д゚;)

Once the new lenses arrive I will try and get the same shots added to this post to compare, so stay tuned (⌒_⌒)/
