Silly Nex-5n, thats not your lens! give it back to A77

Photography ♥

December 30, 2012

I recently picked up photography as a hobby.. and "wow, did that escalate quickly?"

yeah, so... I basically started out by getting the Sony Nex-5n, a lovely small and portable camera. Got myself some zoom and prime lenses and had loads of fun. (this is where I should likely just have been content, but alas my love for gadgetry and the numbers on them would have me do otherwise)

Note, I previously bought the Canon SX1 for going to Japan.

"Memo to the reader:'yes, even before buying all the stuff I was very well aware that expensive equipment combined with a shit photographer still produces shit pictures."

But I should mention that my love for photography is likely atleast 50% the nerding around with the equipment as it is actually taking the pictures. And remember to me it is just a hobby and ties in well with experiencing Japan, and other travels.

Now then! this quickly expanded to include a Sony A77 and a 24-70mm Zeiss Planner lens and more... and though I did use is a lot on Mt. Takao and on my travels to Taiwan and sailing in Australia, I was starting to take it with me less and less due to the shere weight of it. (The A77 is a grown up camera, and the Zeiss lens is around 1kg) so I started using the Nex-5n to the point where the Sony A77 never really left the shelf exept for the occational portrait shoot. Also the Sony A77 produces 24mb/pix raws that just "rips" through storage space. (And this is despite that fact I am good at deleting unwanted photos from my libraries...also because I am a shit photographer I have a lot to delete, but none the less...(=_=)

Not soon after I started drooling over the news, and the sneak reveiws of the Sony Nex-6 ♥

This seemed to correct all my "facepalm" moments with the Nex-5n, and add some really cool features, and still keep it all in a small packages...AND I could still use my existing E-mount lenses.

Now things the Nex-6 have that the Nex-5n does not:

  • hotshoe for std. camera flashes etc.

  • Wifi, live preview and use your Iphone, ipad etc as remote release. (also playmemory apps fro Sony online. Some cool stuff that other have written volumes about on the net)

  • EVF in camera ♥

  • Mode dial, and easy navigation withouth having to go through the Sony retarded menues. (at least not too much once you set the fn keys to your liking.)

  • Hybrid focus system. (phase detect and contract detect combined in a fact and so far to my experience accurate autofocus)

  • Built in popup flash. meh! but still better than the extra gear you had to attached to the old Nex-5n instead of the external EVF. sigh

  • etc etc.

All in all a win win situation in getting rid of the Sony A77 and the Sony Nex-5n. (⌒_⌒)
